Nothing speaks of a more iconic American tree than the Giant Sequoia or Redwood tree. As a member of the Cypress family of trees, it is native to the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The trees' natural habitat is diminishing and is considered endangered there. Here's your chance to help keep the species growing and grow one of these wonderful trees to last your family many generations.
Living over 3000 years old, the young sequoia starts out as a small coniferous tree much like any other young evergreen. The Sequoia is a relatively fast growing tree (can grow at rates higher than 3feet per year) and easily grows in the Pacific Northwest, California, and the Southern US states. The sequoia likes a more humid environment with hotter summers. It grows best in moist, rich, well drained soils and will not tolerate dry soil.
